Aeschynanthus is a genus of flowering plants in the Gesneriaceae family, which is related to the popular African Violet plant. It is native to Southeast Asia and is known for its colourful, tubular flowers that resemble tubes of lipstick, hence its common name. The plant is a popular houseplant and is grown for its ornamental appeal. It is a trailing plant, often grown in hanging baskets, with glossy, dark green leaves and showy, tubular blooms in shades of red, orange, and pink. This plant is an epiphyte, which means it grows on a host, i.e. tree or rock.

Plant care

Pot size: 15cm - Overall Length: 48cm

Aeschynanthus prefers bright, indirect sunlight. A south or west-facing room should have the ideal conditions to get enough direct light.

Water Aeschynanthus when the topsoil has dried out slightly. Do not allow the soil to get saturated.

Average room temperature is excellent to grow lipstick plants and help them thrive. The ideal temperature range is between 18°C - 30°C.

Most Aeschynanthus hybrids plants thrive in high humidity, similar to their native environment. To keep this tropical plant happy, spray the leaves daily with a fine mist.

Considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Feed your plant every four weeks between March and October when in flower.
