Begonia maculata, commonly known as the Polka Dot Begonia or Angel Wing Begonia, is an enchanting houseplant recognised for its uniquely patterned foliage and graceful appearance. Native to Brazil, this begonia species belongs to the Begoniaceae family and has become a favourite among plant enthusiasts for its striking visual appeal. It has large, asymmetrical leaves adorned with silver-white spots. The angel wing-shaped leaves are a deep green colour and have a wavy margin.

Begonia maculata has a cane-like growth habit, with stems that are often thick and bamboo-like. It produces clusters of delicate, pink flowers and is a relatively low-maintenance houseplant.

Plant care

Pot size: 17cm - Height (including pot): 45cm approx.

Begonia maculata thrives in bright, indirect light.

This plant prefers a moist soil, and it would benefit from allowing the top of their soil to dry up before watering. Be mindful not to keep this plant too wet as they can get root rot.

Normal UK household temperatures is fine but keep them away from draughts.

Moderate humidity is ideal, but this adaptable plant can handle most home environments.

Toxic to cats and dogs. Feed once a month in the growing season (spring and summer).
