Citrus Bergamot

£130.00

Citrus bergamia originates in Italy and is more commonly known as the Bergamot orange or Lemon Bergamot, are prized for both their aromatic leaves and flavourful fruit, making them an excellent present for citrus enthusiasts. Believed to be a cross between a lemon and bitter orange, these trees, under optimal conditions, yield ripe, yellow fruit comparable in size to an orange. Although the fruit is not edile, it is very aromatic and can still be applied in various ways.

Primarily recognised as a key ingredient in the popular Earl Grey teas, the peel and juices of the Bergamot orange, enriched with beneficial oils, lend themselves to a myriad of delightful recipes. Citrus bergamia stands out not only for its fruit but also for the allure of the tree itself. An evergreen, this tree boasts a small crown, contributing to its overall beauty.

Plant care

Pot size: 5L / D12cm - Height (including pot): 80cm approx.

Provide full sunlight, ideally at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Indoors, place the tree near a south-facing window to maximise exposure to sunlight.

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Citrus plants may need more water during hot and dry periods.

Citrus bergamia thrives in subtropical to tropical climates. Protect the tree from frost, as it is sensitive to cold temperatures. If growing in a container outside, consider moving it indoors during colder months.

Citrus plants needs over 50% humidity. Provide increased humidity by standing potted citrus plants on trays of damp pebbles. Mist-spray occasionally.

If growing in a container, choose a large pot with drainage holes. Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Use a citrus-specific or well-balanced fertiliser for potted citrus plants. Avoid heavy pruning during the winter months.
