Cryptanthus zonatus, commonly known as Earth Star or Starfish Plant, is an enchanting and unique bromeliad native to Brazil. It forms a low-growing, compact rosette with gracefully arching leaves which are arranged in a star-like pattern, giving the plant its common names. Leaves are broad and paddle-shaped, with a stunning colour palette, and may display various shades of green, red, prink and silver, often featuring intricate patterns depending on the cultivar. In the center of the rosette is a ‘cup’ which collects water. This feature is a characteristic in bromeliads and plays a role in the plant’s natural habitat, where it gathers water and nutrients.
It is a relatively easy-to-care-for bromeliad.
