Humata tyermannii, White Rabbit’s Foot Fern

Humata tyermannii, also known as White Rabbit’s Foot Fern is an unusual evergreen indoor hanging fern. It is also commonly known as Silver Hare’s Foot and Bears Paw Fern. It gets this name because it produces furry silvery rhizomes that grow outside of the pot and dangle over the sides! Foliage of this easy to grow fern is rich dark green.

Plant care

Pot size: 20cm x Overall length: 46cm

Humata tyermannii likes bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight.

Keep soil moist but do not overwater as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during winter months. Maintain the rhizomes moist by daily misting.

Average UK household temperatures between 18-24°C is ideal for White Rabbit's Foot Fern. Avoid temperature falling lower than 10°C, cold draughts and radiators.

Humata tyermannii thrives in high humidity.

White Rabbit's Foot Fern is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing period. Remove dead and damaged fronds. As the plant ages, the older fronds turn brown. Cut them off at the base to maintain the plant looking neat and tidy.
