The Licuala grandis, also known as the ruffled fan palm, Vanuatu fan palm or Palas palm, is a captivating houseplant prized for its elegant, pleated leaves. This slow-growing palm hails from the tropical rainforests of Vanuatu, an island nation in the Pacific near Australia. The palm boasts numerous pleated, fan-shaped leaves and are  a deep, glossy green colour.

With its elegant form, beautiful ruffled leaves, and tolerance for lower light conditions, the Licuala grandis is a wonderful choice for a low-maintenance indoor palm.

Plant care

Pot size: 12cm - Height (including pot): 45cm approx.

While it enjoys plenty of light, Licuala grandis prefers indirect sunlight. Harsh direct sun can scorch the delicate leaves.

This palm prefers consistently moist, but not soggy, soil. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out before watering again. Reduce watering frequency in winter.

Temperature range is 16 - 27°C at which this plant is healthiest and grows best.

Moderate to high humidity is ideal for Licuala grandis. Misting the leaves regularly or using a pebble tray with water can help maintain humidity levels.

Licuala grandis is considered non-toxic to both cats and dogs. This palm is generally low-maintenance. However, be mindful that the leaves are delicate and can tear easily. Avoid rough handling.
