Ludisia discolor, commonly known as the Jewel Orchid is an unusual flowering perennial plant that is native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia. The most striking feature of Ludisia discolor is its lush, dark green leaves, often tinged with burgundy or maroon undertones. The leaves have a glossy, velvety texture, creating a rich, opulent appearance. They may have attractive silver or white veining patterns, which add to their allure. Ludisia discolor produce small, delicate, and inconspicuous flowers on slender stems. These blooms are usually cream or pale yellow.

This jewel orchid is relatively low-maintenance.

Plant care

Pot size: 24cm - Height (including pot): 30cm approx.

Bright, indirect light.

Use tepid water when the top soil is dry. Do not let this plant sit in water as this can cause root rot.

Keep temperatures above 15°C.

Keep humidity levels above 85%.

Feed your Jewel orchid with orchid feed once every three weeks in spring and summer. There are two ways to water this plant, you can water from the top down or water from the bottom up. If you are watering from the bottom up, then place your potted plant on a a tray of water and allow the water to climb up the Jewel's roots.
