Ornithogalum lithopsoides

£12.99

Ornithogalum lithopsoides, also known as the “Miniature Snowflake Bulb” or “False Lithops,” is a charming little succulent with unique characteristics. This dwarf succulent is quite small, typically reaching only 15-25 centimeters  in height. Unlike many succulents, Ornithogalum lithopsoides boasts an epigeal bulb, meaning a portion of the bulb remains above the ground. This bulb is a globe shape and partially covered with a papery white layer that helps retain moisture. Emerging from the base of the bulb are needle-like leaves. These are a beautiful emerald green colour and very thin and flexible, resembling a tuft of grass. The leaves may also have a fine, whitish fuzz that gives the plant a silvery sheen in sunlight. Ornithogalum lithopsoides is native to the southwestern Cape Province of South Africa, where it thrives in subtropical climates.

The true showstopper appears in the form of a slender stem emerging from the center of the foliage. At the tip of this stem blooms a fascinating spike of tiny, white, star-shaped flowers. These flowers are delicate and elegant.

Plant care

Pot size: 9cm - Height (including pot): 15cm approx.

This succulent prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves.

As with most succulents, Ornithogalum lithopsoides prefers infrequent watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, especially during dormancy (summer months)

Average household temperatures are fine for this plant.

Normal household humidity is fine.

They do not need frequent feeding, it is sufficient to dilute the fertiliser with watering once a year.
