Primulina youngfuensis

The Primulina youngfuensis (often also spelled yungfuensis) is a delightful, compact foliage plant and a member of the Gesneriad family, making it a close relative of the African Violet. It is highly valued by houseplant collectors for its unique leaf texture and manageable size.

The leaves are its most prized feature, they are distinctly soft and velvety due to a covering of fine, delicate hairs. They often display a beautiful silvery sheen or shimmer, which is an enhancement of the velvety texture.

Plant care

Pot size: 12cm - Height (including pot): 17cm approx.

Prefers bright, indirect, or filtered light. Avoid intense, direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Needs consistently moist soil, but it is crucial to avoid a soggy, waterlogged mix, as this can lead to rot. Let the top layer of soil dry slightly between waterings. Best watered from the bottom, to prevent crown rot and leaf spotting.

Thrives in 18–24°C room temperatures.

Thrives in moderate to high humidity (above 50% is recommended), which mirrors its native habitat.

It belongs to the Gesneriad family (the same group as African violets), which are generally recognised as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
