Tillandsia caput-medusae, commonly known as the Octopus plant and Medusa’s head. It is a fascinating and distinctive air plant belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. Originating from Central America, particularly from Mexico and Guatemala, this epiphytic species is prized for its unique appearance, which resembles the mythological snake-haired creature, Medusa. This plant forms a loose rosette of slender, silvery-green leaves that curve and curl outward, giving the plant its distinctive appearance. The leaves are are covered in fine, silver-white trichomes, which serve to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air.

Tillandsia caput-medusae is popular among plant enthusiasts for its low-maintenance requirements.

Plant care

Width: 20cm approx. - Length: 335m approx.

It prefers bright indirect sunlight.

During the Summer months, immerse in water for a couple of hours once a week and mist regularly on hot days. After watering or misting this Air plant should be turned upside down so all water drains away. In Winter it needs to be watered approximately once a month.

This plant is happiest over 15°C.

These plants do need a humid environment to thrive.

Mist it 2-3 times per week, depending on the season.
